Dimitri PAYET
Is the best player I have ever seen play for us.

I was too young to appreciate Devonshire's best years and missed out on Brooking, but talent wise he pisses over anyone else.

What a player.

Re: Dimitri PAYET
Fantastic player. Talent wise only Di Canio comparable in my time.

Over-rated and doesn't produce the goods according to Collymore

Re: Dimitri PAYET
Too inconsistent, I would have cashed in in the summer!!

Pleased to see that he seems to have his head back on now, after having it turned a bit with all the speculation during the Euro's. Was superb on Saturday.

Yep I've seen all the legends from the past and Dimitri is slowly earning his place in that squad let's hope we keep him.

Re: Dimitri PAYET
When he picked something up off the pitch (?) and went to the touchline to hand it to someone why did the referee make him go off the pitch and wait to return?

He is a brilliant player but he'd have to be genius to coax a goal out of the donkey's up front at the moment.
Funnily enough his worst pass of the day was probably the one to Reid in the last minute.

Re: Dimitri PAYET
Best player from either team on the pitch most games by a long way.

The rest of the team and the manager need to start helping him out a bit more.

Very easy to agree here. Best I've seen in a C&B shirt.

Re: Dimitri PAYET
There's a perception that he's started the season slowly, but statistically he's whoscored's 2nd best player in the league so far. 4 assists and a goal from 6 starts - if that's starting slow..!

In terms of club legends I think the fact that he's difficult to build into a modern premiership team does count against him a bit imo. Di Canio and Tevez did what they did playing off the front. With Payet we have to accept and build around his weaknesses for the team to function, and it's not an easy process as we've found so far this season. It's a bit similar to Berkovic, who was an incredible talent in the free midfield role but simply couldn't (or wouldn't) play in any other way.

Re: Dimitri PAYET
When you look at the effect players like pogba have on games and the effect payet has he's obviously way ahead but as an old head Brooking and Devonshire were miles ahead of him, personally I would have him ahead of di canio as anyone who watched dI Canio week in week out home and away would know he only turned it on occasionally whereas payet is much more consistent

Re: Dimitri PAYET
Will have to go a VERY long way and for a good few years yet to beat the influence, skill, and enduring talent that Alan Devonshire had.

Bit like the Greatest Briton ever poll when David Beckham polled a sizeable amount instead of true British greats...........people have short term memories

Re: Dimitri PAYET
Arguably since the PL began twenty five years ago we have had two outstanding players in PDC and Payet. Let's get as much enjoyment out of watching Payet as we can because these chaps don't come along very oft

Re: Dimitri PAYET
I can count myself incredibly lucky!
I watched Bobby Moore playing week in week out for several seasons
I saw Brooking & Devonshire play on numerous occasions
I saw di Canio & Tevez several times (all excluding televised games of course, where you can never really feel the true magnificence of such players)
Payet's free kicks are the best in the world, bar none
Some of his wizardry belies belief. If he isn't the most skilful, entertaining, player to play for us I don't know who could be placed above him

he's very good up there with the best

my 7 year old is nuts about him, fuck me I hope we don't sell him or he'll tear the ground up

For some reason Devonsshire and Dicanio excited me more? not sure why, Payet is class.

Re: Dimitri PAYET
When PDC turned up we had a good idea of what he could do but Payet was a total surprise to me and he has well exceeded my expectations.

Re: Dimitri PAYET
SLOW start has consisted of...

96TH minute winner in league cup
Worldly assist v Watford
Goal of the season v Boro
MOTM v Sunderland.

He would have been fucked after the euros, mentally and physically too. Such a LAD

Re: Dimitri PAYET
He was the most important signing of the summer too. Doesn't bare thinking about had he gone.
